Illinois is in dire financial straits and yet we fail to utilize the obvious assets we do have. This state’s coal reserves have tremendous value but without technology to reduce the associated pollution that value may never be realized. Coal gasification is an immediate answer that would allow us to utilize our coal in an environmentally safe way. Unfortunately, corporate greed and corruption among our elected leaders prevent the technology from being used. The opportunity to infuse billions of dollars in revenue into Illinois’ economy will be lost.
